Lemaire Leather Scarf

Leather Scarf

This is the one piece this week that is an idea before it is a garment. A scarf in leather has no obvious precedent, and yet worn once it becomes clear why it exists: the leather has weight, so it stays where it is placed, and it holds a fold the way cloth never does. It functions as a collar, a lapel, a line of structure across an otherwise soft outfit. Lemaire builds it in a supple hide that softens with handling, and finishes the edges cleanly so it never reads as a offcut. The most disciplined kind of experiment — one that solves something.

A scarf executed in black leather — a garment that behaves like an accessory and reads like a proposition. Lemaire at its most conceptual and most wearable.

Editorial Breakdown

The Case For It

It holds its position. Leather has enough weight to stay as arranged, which no silk or wool scarf does.

Introduces structure to soft layers — a cashmere cardigan, a silk shirt — without adding a jacket.

Ages visibly and well. The creases become the object's record rather than its failure.

Black leather, no hardware, no closure. There is nothing here to fall out of favour.

What To Notice

  • 01

Edge treatment: finished and sealed rather than raw-cut, which is what separates this from a craft object.

  • 02

The suppleness of the hide. It should fold without cracking at the spine of the fold.

  • 03

Weight distribution along the length — enough to hang, not enough to drag the shoulders.
